SPRING PLANTING COMES EARLY TO TOKI

Don’t let those winter blues get you down…plan your garden early. Toki PTO is sponsoring its third annual Plant Sale starting March 26th, 2008. Choose from a variety of bedding flowers, foliage plants or hanging baskets. Our beautiful and healthy plants come directly from Irish Lane Greenhouse. You won’t be disappointed, and it’s easy. Fill out the order form:

Toki Plant Sale Order Form

and return it with your check, cash or money order by Monday, April 7th, 2008. Make checks out to Toki PTO and attach to your order.

Greentree neighbors can mail their forms and payment to Marcy Braun, 30 Lancaster Ct, Madison 53719.

Choose from a variety of plants in several different colors and sizes, or choose a gift certificate to Irish Lane instead. You can buy the plants as full or half flats. We also have hanging baskets and 4.5-inch pots that include ferns, ivy, spikes and vines.

Toki benefits from every plant and gift certificate sold. Plants will arrive at Toki on Thursday, May 8th, 2008 for pick up at Toki from 2:30-6:30. Or, Marcy is also offering free delivery to any neighbors aged 55+...in case getting up to the school is a problem. Plants can be paid in advance and will be left by the front door on May 8 or 9!

Your plants will arrive the week before Mother’s Day—how convenient!

If you have any questions, please e-mail Marcy Braun: brauntown30@yahoo.com or call 274-5012.

Market Day continues at Falk

Market Day is a fundraising food co-op that has been serving the Falk community for over 10 years. Market Day offers restaurant-quality food products that are competitively priced and delicious. Falk school PTO earns a profit on each monthly sale, and in past years we have earned over $2,000 per year this way! This money benefits the students at Falk in so many ways.

A Market Day order form will come home with you child via backpack express. You may order online at www.marketday.com. Each monthly Market Day “Pick-Up” is held after school in the gym. You may pick up your order between 4:15 and 5:15 pm on that day, and we love help with sorting orders from 3:00 on! It's simple and very convenient: there are many returning customers whose children have graduated from Falk and continue to use Market Day because of the high-quality food products offered. Hope to see you at Market Day! – Betz Pilon, Market Day chair.

Volunteer at Falk

Make a difference to our young people by volunteering at Falk. It's fun and easy to help some of our neighborhood young people learn. If you might be interested in volunteering, contact our Americorps volunteer, Matt Matysik, at 204-2207.

Have fun at Courage Assemblies

Every month, Falk has a whole-school assembly for fun and entertainment, as well as recognition for achievements. Visitors are welcome. Just sign in at the Falk office at about 1:45, then proceed to the gym to join in the fun until about 2:30. Assemblies are almost always the second Friday of the month.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers Needed at Falk Elementary

You can help our kids learn, and also help them feel cared-for by our community, by volunteering at Falk. We have a Vista volunteer this year to help coordinate volunteer work at Falk. Her name is Uyenthi Tran (pronounce that “Wing-T” Tran). Contact her by email at utran@madison.k12.wi.us or by phone at 204-2207.

Hobbyists: The after-school program is putting together after-school activities for the remainder of this school year. Do you have an interest you might share with Falk students? Perhaps you know how to knit, or dance, or speak a foreign language. A staff member will be with you to take care of discipline and administrative duties. Call Beth in Safe Haven (our on-site after-school program) at 204-2208 to discuss the possibilities.

Tutors Needed at Toki Middle School

Schools of Hope is the Madison area’s most sustained effort in eliminating the achievement gap amongst middle school students. As a program that functions primarily on volunteer support, they are presently seeking volunteers who would be willing to spend one hour a week with a student, between the hours of 7:45 AM and 3:45 PM , tutoring in math and basic literacy. Although it is only one hour out of your week, it is an hour that the students can look forward to for the extra support they need to succeed.

Schools of Hope are actively recruiting to fill at least 80 regular volunteer tutors for Toki Middle School. Please, take some time to consider volunteering as a tutor this school year. For more information about how you can get involved with a student, contact Beth Wraalstad (MSCR-Toki Coordinator) at 204-4778 or via email at bwraalstad@madison.k12.wi.us. For more information check out Toki’s web site at www.madison.k12.wi.us/toki.
